Assabet History
The Assabet Minor Hockey Association is a not-for-profit corporation that operates eight teams from Mite Minor (birth year 2003 and younger) to Bantam Major (1996 birth year). Assabet has been churning out a steady stream of winning teams and solid players since 1973. The first Assabet Squirt team assembled included three future NHL players: Bob Sweeney, Tom Barrasso, and John Carter. In a twist of fate, Sweeney scored his first NHL goal against Barrasso in a game at the Boston Garden. At various times in their youth hockey careers, the following NHL and/or US Olympic Stars wore the Assabet red sweater: Al Bourbeau, Phil Bourque, Bob Brooke, Scott Young, Jeff Lazaro, Bob Carpenter, Shawn McEachern, Ray LeBlanc, Ted Crowley, Hal Gil, and Mike Grier
